Amazon announced On Wednesday that customers in more than 2,300 cities and towns in the US can now get fresh groceries through the same delivery service. The e-commerce giant said it plans to expand its services to additional cities by 2026.
Amazon first launched the ability to ship perishables via same-day delivery In Augusta move that appears to be a way for the company to be more complete with InstaCart and Walmart + in the fast commerce space.
Since its launch, customers have ordered fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, meat, grocery items, and frozen foods and snacks like paper towels and toothpaste.
Amazon says its “temperature-controlled praise network” ensures that shoppers receive unidentifiable scented ingredients, and that their orders undergo a six-point quality check upon arrival. Plus, temperature sensitive products are shipped in a sealed bag.
Fresh groceries now make up nine out of ten of the top items for express delivery, Amazon said.
Best sellers for same day delivery are Bananas, Haas Avocados, Strawberries, Apples, Blueberries, Blackberries, Organic Bananas, Oranges, and Seaweed.
The company also noted that the sales of perishable goods will grow 30 times from January, and customers who add fresh stores for the same order shipments are twice as often as those who do not.
Free same-day shipping on orders over $25 for prime members. If the order does not meet the minimum quantity, the customer can still choose the same delivery for a fee of $2.99. For customers without a prime membership, the service is available at a cost of $12.99, regardless of order size.
Amazon says that it has selected the option that can be used for the same 30% shipment from August, and has collected thousands of popular items in all markets.
