Suspected drone strikes disrupted flights in Belgium on Tuesday, with no flights departing or arriving at Brusselsls Airport.
Air traffic there was suspended around 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT) following a drone strike. An hour later it quickly opened, before closing again shortly after.
BieGe airport was also affected and it is not clear when flights will resume. Local media also reported sightings of the Kleine-Brogel and Florennes military airbases, local media reports.
It is the latest in a string of suspected drone strikes that have caused havoc at European airports – including Munich, Copenhagen and Oslo.
A statement on the website of Brussels Airport on Tuesday evening read: “Currently there are no departures or arrivals of airport flights around the airport.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as soon as we have more information.”
Photos taken inside the airport show what appear to be camp beds read out for passengers.
Officials at Brusselsel’s second largest airport, Charleroi, said air traffic was briefly halted there as a precaution as well.
Local media reported the first flights were diverted to Liege – before also being closed due to suspected drone sightings.
It added that flights have since been diverted to nearby airports – including Ostend and Charleroi in Belgium, and Eindhoven and Masastricht in the Netherlands.
Tuesday was the fourth night in a row reported by the Belgian authorities Drone views of Kleine-Brogel, a major military base near the Dutch border.
Belgium’s Defense Minister, Theo Francen, said on Monday that an investigation had been launched, calling it “a clear target of the kleine broge”.
Drones were also seen near Ostend and Antwerp’s Deutne Airports over the weekend, according to Belgian News VRT’s Site Site.
