An avalanche swept through a camp on Yalung Ri mountain on Monday, killing five foreign climbers and two Nepali guides, Nepalese officials said.
Armed Police spokesman Shailendra Thapa said five other people were injured at the base camp at an altitude of 16,070 meters.
The nationalities and identities of the foreign climbers were not yet confirmed, but local media reported that some US citizens were among the dead.
The rescuers reached the site on foot.
The peak of Yalung Ri Mountain is at an altitude of 18,370 meters.
