by Shohei Ohtani woman Mamiko Tanaka made a rare appearance alongside fellow Los Angeles Dodgers WAGs in celebration of the club’s 2025 World Series victory.
“My girls 🫶🏻💙 #big3 #dodgers #worldseries,” Chelsea Freeman, first baseman’s wife Freddie Freemanhe wrote via Instagram on Saturday, Nov. 1, after her husband and the rest of the LA Dodgers won Game 7 of the World Series, 5-4, against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Freeman shared a photo with Tanaka and Brianna Bettswoman of the famous short stop Mookie Betts. All three wives could be seen smiling for the camera as they wore matching team jackets with their husband’s respective numbers in bright red.
A second photo shared showed a large group of women (presumably the wives and/or partners of the entire team) wearing the same jackets.
Ohtani and his wife they have been married since February 2024, and the World Series winner isn’t the only athlete in the relationship. After a college career at Waseeda University, Tanaka played professional basketball for the Fujitsu Red Wave of the Japan Basketball League for four years before retiring in 2023.
The news of their marriage came as a surprise, even to the Dodgers, at the time. Ohtani shared the big life update via Instagram on February 29, 2024.
“The season is coming, I am pleased to announce to you that I am married.” CNN reported a translation of his post was read. “We’re still young and (there’s) a lot we don’t know yet, but we hope you’ll watch over us with love,” he continued, “we hope the two of us (and a dog) work together to support each other and move forward alongside our fans.”
Ohtani announced the couple were expecting in December 2024. “Can’t wait for the little rookie to join our family soon!” Ohtani wrote via Instagram alongside a photo of a pink jumpsuit, white baby shoes, a sonogram and his dog, Decoy. They welcomed their first child, a daughter, in April 2025.

I am so grateful to my lovely wife for giving birth to our beautiful healthy daughter,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous but super anxious parents. I would also like to thank the Dodgers organization, my teammates and the fans for their constant support and kind words of encouragement. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all the medical professionals and everyone who supported us leading up to this wonderful day.”
The baseball star was heavily pursued by several MLB teams after playing five seasons in Japan. He signed with the Los Angeles Angels in 2017 and announced his decision to leave the team for the Dodgers in December 2023, a move that came with a 10-year, $700 million contract.
Ohtani thanked his former team via Instagram shortly after signing with the Dodgers.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone involved with the Angels organization and the fans who have supported me over the past six years, as well as everyone involved with every team that was part of this negotiation process,” he wrote. “Especially to the Angels fans who supported me through all the ups and downs, your guys’ support and cheer meant the world to me. The six years I spent with the Angels will be etched in my heart forever.”
He added, “And to all Dodgers fans, I promise to always do what’s best for the team and continue to give my all to be the best version of myself. Until the last day of my playing career, I want to continue to strive not only for the Dodgers but for the world of baseball.”
