Brazilian influencer Melissa said he has broken his silence regarding his arrest for alleged drug trafficking.
Local news mail reported that Said, 23, was taken into police custody on Thursday, October 23, in Salvador, Brazil. The outlet noted that Said had been hiding at a friend’s house since Wednesday, October 22, after discovering that the police were looking for her.
“On digital platforms, he advocated drug use and used his reach to sell marijuana, with suppliers identified in Bahia and São Paulo,” authorities said, according to the outlet. “Investigations also indicate that he purchased the drug and passed it on to some followers through social media contacts.”
A video shared by The Sun on Saturday, October 25, showed Said in handcuffs as authorities led her out of a building.
“It’s a shame … nobody in the world should be arrested for smoking marijuana,” he told reporters, per The Sun
The outlet reported that Said admitted to using marijuana, but denied a connection to the drug ring. The Sun pointed out that Said’s arrest it was part of a larger operation, which included other arrests.
Hernandez Junior, said the director of the Department of State for the Prevention and Repression of Drug Trafficking (DENARC) in a statement obtained by The Sun“the objective of this operation is to combat drug trafficking, with the main objective of a digital influencer promoting crime”.
He continued: “It was discovered that in addition to promoting crime and drug use, she also sells and distributes narcotics in Bahia, with some people from São Paulo as one of her suppliers.”
The New York Post reported that police began investigating Said and possible involvement in drug trafficking after she was reportedly arrested at an airport for alleged drug possession in 2024.
That same year, Brazil decriminalized personal possession of small amounts of cannabis. Although medical cannabis is legal for certain patients, according to the Associated Press, selling cannabis for recreational use is still a crime.
In the last Instagram publish before his arrest, Said, which has accumulated more than 378,000 followers on the social media platform — shared a video about cannabis.
