Former NFL star Nick Mangold he was a dedicated family man before his sudden death on October 25 from complications of kidney disease. He was 41 years old.
Just a few weeks before hers premature deathMangold shared with fans that he needed a kidney transplant and his health was serious.
“It’s not an easy message to share, but I want to be open about what’s been going on with me and my health,” Mangold wrote via Instagram on Oct. 14. “In 2006, I was diagnosed with a genetic defect that has led to chronic kidney disease. After a tough summer, I’m on dialysis, but I always thought that a kidney transplant would come this day. More time.”
His death, announced on October 26, rocked the NFL community as condolences poured in for the former New York Jets player.
“Nick was more than just a legendary center,” the Jets president said Woody Johnson he said in a statement. “He was the heartbeat of our offensive line for a decade and a beloved teammate whose leadership and toughness defined an era of Jets football. Off the field, Nick’s wit, warmth and unwavering loyalty made him a beloved member of our extended Jets family.”
“It’s brutal. Such a big young man,” Rex Ryanwho coached Mangold for six seasons, he said that same day. “I had the pleasure of coaching him for six years at the Jets.
He continued: “(Mangold) was fantastic and too young. I feel so bad for his wife and family.”
In addition to being a two-time All Pro NFL player, Mangold was a husband and father of four young children.

Nick married his wife in 2007
Mangold and Jennifer were high school sweethearts, marrying in April 2007. They met in Centerville, Ohio, before Mangold began his NFL career.
Jennifer stayed out of the spotlight for most of Mangold’s career, but was mentioned by name by the Jets president. Woody Johnson while sending his condolences to the family.
“On behalf of the entire Johnson family and the New York Jets organization, we offer our deepest condolences to Jenny, her four children, Matthew, Eloise, Thomas and Charlotte, as well as Nick’s extended family, friends and all who loved him,” Johnson said in a statement.
Mangold and Jennifer shared four children
The couple have four children together, two sons and two daughters: son Matthew, daughter Eloise, son Thomas and daughter Charlotte.
Mangold traveled with his family to Italy and Disney World in 2023
The family took a couple of big trips in 2023, which Mangold documented on his Instagram account. Mangold and his family went to Disney World in Orlandoand he and his wife also traveled to Italy.
“The most amazing week in Italy,” Mangold posted along with a selfie of him and Jennifer in Rome. “From the great city of Rome to the small town of Citta Della Pieve we saw it all.”
Mangold liked to cash in on his “dad tax” with baby food
Also on Instagram, Mangold has posted a photo of a special sign that his daughter, Eloise, left for him on the family refrigerator. The sign, stuck to Eloise’s lunch, reads: “For Eloise don’t touch. I’m not kidding dad.”
Mangold certainly appears to have been a strict enforcer of father’s tax.
