president Donald Trump On Saturday, he said he planned to raise import tariffs on Canadian goods by an additional 10 per cent due to anti-tariff television ads aired in Ontario.
The ad used quotes from former President Ronald Reagan to criticize U.S. tariffs, angering Trump who said he would end them trade negotiations with canada. Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he will pull the ad after the weekend and air it during Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night.
“Their ad should have been taken down immediately, but they let it air during last night’s World Series because they knew it was a fraud,” Trump posted on his Truth social platform as he flew aboard Air Force One to Malaysia.
“Because of their gross distortions and hostile behavior, I will increase tariffs on Canada by 10 per cent on top of what they are paying now.”
Both Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in Malaysia. But Trump told reporters accompanying him that he had no intention of meeting Carney there.
