Rivian founder RJ Scaringe takes on a new role at the company as part of preparations ahead of the launch of the R2 SUV this year, which includes a Lay off more than 600 employeesSee rank-.
Scaringe told employees in an email on Thursday that he will act as Rivian’s chief marketing officer on an interim basis as the company searches for its first person. Rivian’s “marketing experience” team and the company’s creative studio lead will now report directly to Scaring, according to a copy of the email obtained by TechCrunch.
It’s not clear how many live reports there are, a spokesman declined to comment – although he told the decoder podcast last year that there were “a large number”. ”
“I am writing to share a difficult update,” Scaringe said in an email to Rivian staff. “With the launch of R2 in front of us and the need to implement our business, we have made the very difficult decision to make structural adjustments to our team to roughly approximate the size of the team.”

In addition to Rivian marketing and divian creative, the company also “features” the customer experience, according to the email. Scaringe said Rivian is moving its “vehicle operations” team and integrating it with the company’s service division.
