Rivian reportedly cut 600 workers in the third quarter of the year, or about 4% of its workforce, according to The Wall Street JournalSee rank-.
The company previously made cuts of around 100 to 150 workers in September and June to its commercial and manufacturing teams. Rivian declined to comment on whether teams were affected by the recent layoffs.
The cut is Rivian pretending to launch an important mass-market model, the R2 SUV, in 2026. The company plans to make 150,000 EVs at its plant in Illinois. Rivian also recently broke ground on a new factory outside of Atlanta, where it plans to build more R2s and other variants.
Until the R2 hits the road, though, Rivian is struggling to keep the locksmith in between now. Guess the best case now for the total number of deliveries by the end of 2025 would represent a 16% drop from last year’s sales.
