The two have been publicly criticizing each other for years, a frequent back and forth for Trump’s participation in politics. In recent days, O’Donnell has decried Trump and his administration’s latest moves on social media, including signing a massive Republican-backed tax break and spending cuts.
Trump is the latest threat to revoke citizenship for people he publicly disagrees with, and is recently his former adviser and one-time ally, Elon Musk.
But O’Donnell’s situation is very different from Musk, who was born in South Africa. O’Donnell was born in the United States and has constitutional rights to U.S. citizenship. “The president has no right to take away citizenship from a locally born American citizen,” Frost said in an email Saturday. “In short, we are based on the principle that people choose government; governments cannot choose people.”
O’Donnell moved to Ireland after Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris for his second term. She said she is obtaining Irish citizenship based on her family lineage.
O’Donnell wrote on social media in response to Trump on Saturday that she disturbed the president and “added me to the list of people who opposed him.”
